Onion pakoras

Onion pakoras are the best snack to have on a rainy evening with tea. Onion is generally used for all dishes as it enhances the taste of the dish and it is a must for spicy pakoras.

Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 15 min
Serves: 4-5


  • 5 onions
  • 3 cups gram flour (Besan)
  • 7 green chillies
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 tsp rice flour
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • Few curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp cashew nuts
  • Oil for deep frying
  • ½ bunch coriander


Sift besan and take it in a bowl. Grind together green chilies, ginger and garlic to a paste. Mix it to the besan.

Heat oil for frying in a kadai. Mix 1 tbsp hot oil, salt, chopped onions, baking soda, rice flour, chopped curry leaves, chopped coriander and broken cashew nuts.

Mix well adding water gradually so that the onions are coated with the flour. Drop the mixture in hot oil little by little and fry till they are golden brown.

Serve hot with tomato sauce.
