Lauki Ke Kofte

Lauki (Gourd) is often recommended when your stomach is upset. But have you ever thought that this vegetable can be transformed into a lip smacking recipe. Lauki ke kofte is a dish that is sure to entice your taste buds. It takes just 30 minutes and the end result is extremely delectable. You need just a few of ingredients and you have too good a dish to serve even to your guests. It is commonly found in North India.

  • 250 gm lauki (Gourd)
  • 150 gm besan (gram flour)
  • 2 green chilly
  • 2 onions
  • 2 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chilly powder
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil to fry
  • 2 bowls Water
  • Green coriander leaves to garnish


Peel the gourd. Grate it. Boil it and keep it in a strainer to remove excess water. Now fry gram flour in a pan without oil. And mix it well in the boiled gourd. Cut onions and green chilly into pieces and add them along with salt to the gourd. Now with tender hands make the balls and deep fry the in pre heated oil. When each of the balls well fried the color will change to brown. Take them out in a plate.

For gravy make a fine paste of onion and tomatoes. Add this paste to the pre heated oil and fry for 2 minutes. Now add ginger garlic paste along with some green chilly pieces and fry again for 2 minutes. Now add the spices as coriander powder, red chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt and fry for 2 minutes. When the oil comes to the surface considered them as done.

Now add the gourd balls to the gravy and cover the pan with a lid and turn the gas off. Leave them like this for five to ten minutes so that the balls absorb the gravy. After five minutes add water to it and cook for five minutes. Garnish the kofte with fine chopped green coriander leaves. Serve hot with chapatti.
