Baggy chicken

This chicken recipe sounds unusual but you cannot resist upon trying this recipe. It is gravy not made with chicken pieces but with chicken kheema secured in bags! Go ahead and try this for yourself.

Cooking time: 45 min
Serves: 3-4


  • 1 chicken
  • 75 gms onions (ground to a paste)
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 4 green chilies
  • 1 ½ tsp red chilly powder
  • Salt for taste
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • 4 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1 cup of fresh coconut
  • 2 gms garam masala
  • 1 cup curd
  • Coriander for garnish
  • Oil for frying


Choose tender chicken. Remove the skin. Keep the skin aside. Cut the chicken into pieces and remove the bones. To this chicken, mix some salt, 1 gm garam masala, ½ tsp red chilly powder, 1 tsp ginger garic paste and grind in a mixer.

Clean the skin and cut into wide pieces. Fill the chicken mixture in this and tie each one of them with a thread like a bag.

Fry these bags in hot oil till they turn light brown in color and keep aside.

Heat some oil in a pan and fry onion paste till golden brown. Mix turmeric, remaining ginger garlic paste, red chilly powder and fry for few more minutes.

Stir in poppy seed paste, grated coconut, beaten curd and salt. Mix well and cook for sometime. Now sprinkle garam masala powder. Drop in the fried bags and cook for about 10 minutes closing the lid. Garnish with chopped coriander. Goes well with pulav.
